Our classic Salkantay Trek is an alternative to the traditional inka Trail. Day 01: CUSCO-MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA.
Early pick up from your hotel, we travel on a private transportation to Mollepata ,an Andean village were a nice and hot local breakfast is waiting for us , 9:00 a.m. we begin our hike up to Tres Cruces, lunch with a spectacular view of the Limatambo Valley, we continue our trek to Markokasa, from this point we see the Salkantay Mountain and some time in the afternoon we arrive to Soraypampa, (3500 meters or 20.671 feet), our first campsite (4000m/12750ft; the highest and coldest camp site of the trip) Enjoy the beautiful landscape along the way.
Day 02: : SORAYPAMPA-HUAYRACPUNKU-COLLPAPAMPA
We will have a hot breakfast at around 5.30am and begin our walk to the highest pass on this trek(4650m/15200ft) located halfway between 2 huge mountains; Salkantay on the right and Humantay on the left (Humantay; 4120m/13500ft andSalkantay; 6271m/20575ft).From the pass, the views of the 2 snow-capped mountains are simply incredible. There is a possibility of snow here.
We continue our walk downhill through a dramatic cloud forest, then we arrive to Huayracpunku where we will have lunch. We hike again after lunch heading to the beginning of the jungle until we reach our second campsite, Colcapampa (3000m/9800ft). Another possible campsite is Challway.
Lunch at Huayrac, begin to descend towards Challhuay pampa. Then we follow the course of the river Salkantay, at this point we will have the opportunity to see the beauty of the Andes, this is a gorgeous scenery to camp. (2900 m approx.)
Day 03: COLLPAPAMPA - LA PLAYA-LUCMABAMBA - SANTA TERESA
After breakfast, we start trekking for the day through the upper jungle crossing the Lluskamayo river and a variety of little brooks. The way it is more stable with a warmer climate, Lunch on the way, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery valleys, waterfalls, taste tropical fruits, beautiful flowers and even colorful birds, finally we arrive to Santa Teresa our last campsite. After a short rest, we will (optionally) go to the hot springs and enjoy the well-deserved soothing water, a real treat after finishing the trek!!
Day 04: SANTA TERESA - HYDROELECTRIC - MACHUPICCHU PUEBLO.
Breakfast and then we continue to Hidroelectrica, some 03 hours approximately. The trail cuts into the old coffee plantation of Mandorpampa and enters the cloud forest, following the sacred river for about one and a half hours to the waterfalls from hidroelectrica. These falls are about twelve meters high, and are fed by the crystal-clear melt waters of sacred Mount Yanantin.
From the falls, the trail continues up to the ridge, before becoming lost in the increasingly dense vegetation.
This is a dramatic, fertile landscape, with coffee, banana and avocado plantations carved from the forest, and pristine areas that are the natural habitat of mammals such as the spectacled bear and hundreds of species of birds and butterflies, some of them endemic to the region. This teeming forest is covered with bromeliads and many varieties of orchids, some of which have only recently been identified by science. Arrive to Machupicchu village and overnight in a comfortable hotel.
Day 05: FULL DAY MACHUPICCHU "Sunrise in Machupicchu"
We have an early breakfast and then take the bus up to Machu Picchu.
Pick up from your Hotel and after taking the bus for 25 minutes you will arrive to the Great Inka citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the New Wonders of the World. We will take you on a private guided visit through the streets and get to unveil the mysteries of the only Inka city ever found by the Spanish conquistadors, learn more about its history and how it was discovered by the American sociologist Hiram Bingham in 1911, explore the streets and places known as the Temple of the Sun, The Shrine of Mother Earth, The quarries, the sundial or Intihuatana, among others.
Afternoon journey by train to return to Ollantaytambo, pick-up on private transportation and return to Cusco.
